Nagarjuna's latest movie King got released on the day of Christmas with record no: of prints for a Nagarjuna movie. This new Telugu movie King featuring Nagarjuna and Trisha in the lead roles was directed by Seenu Vytla. It was produced by D Siva Prasad Reddy and the music of the film was conducted by Devi Sri Prasad. This well packed film comes with lot of naughty lines and often risqué humour. The film is expected to do some good business since December is considered to be the lucky month for Nagarjuna.Chandra Pratap Varma aka King (Nagarjuna) hails from a royal family and he takes over the legacy and riches after the death of his father Raja Varma (Sobhan Babu). The big league of the members in the family includes uncles and aunts. All of a sudden, a ravishing beauty Swapna (Mamta Mohandas) comes into the family, threatening to displace the King. Running parallel to the royal story, another thread is incorporated through the episode of Bottu Seenu (again played by Nagarjuna), who falls in love with a singer Sravani (Trisha), who in turn gives her heart to an IT brilliant Sridhar (Nagarjuna). What all this fuss? Does the hero enact triple roles by himself or are they different from each other? It forms the crux and suspense of the movie.
When it comes to the performance of leading artists, Nagarjuna dominates the entire film from the start to finish, frame after frame. Nag looks young and his glamour is matchless though he crossed 50. Nag's triple characterizations come as variety to the audiences and all the numbers are entertaining smeared with hilarious comedy. Trisha looks awesome in her character and made it a memorable one without exposing or overdoing. But the major let down was in the form of Mamta Mohandas. In this film she appears to be a major distraction to the audiences mood.
Other's in the film like Jayaprakash Reddy, Sayaji Shinde and Krishna Bhagwan have done justice to their characters and Sri Hari was superb as Painter Gnaneshwar, brother to Trisha. Once again Seenu Vytla's regular man Brahmanandam is awesome to watch. In this movie he plays a music director and was able to bring laughter to the theatres. Master Bharath is another plus point to the comedy thread in the film, doing the assistant to Brahmanandam.
Director Seenu Vytla has been able to pack the movie in the form of a good entertainer, but it seems the director is still in the hangover of his previous films. His comedy treatment sounded more clichéd and innovative thread of entertaining is glaringly missing. Screenplay of the movie is the major let down. The songs are nice to watch on the screen as they are brilliantly choreographed. Song which features eight heroines in it is a good one to watch but it seems to be a nuisance in the flow of the story. Photography is excellent though music by Devi Sri Prasad has the hangover of his earlier films, with nothing much to talk about.
All in all, Nagarjuna's much awaited King is just an above average flick with some nice comedy and colourful scenes. There is nothing new offered by this film. I would prefer eveyone to go and watch this movie, if you are ready to watch the repetition of some old movies with a new style.
