Villu v/s Padikkathavan

Illaya thalapathy Vijay's Villu as well as Superstar Rajni Kant's son-in-law Dhanush's Padikkathavan have got released for this year's Ponkal season. Both the films are typical mass masala entertainers in order to suit the Tamil audiences and both the films are carrying very average reviews with it. Let's look who will the race?

According to the fans strength as well as huge popularity, Vijay will simply surpass Dhanush in the Tamil film industry. Villu, a racy entertainer made by Prabhu Deva had the beauty queen, Nayan Thara in the female lead whereas in Padikkathavan, it's none other than Tamanna in the female lead. While Dhanush appears to have his priorities right and finds himself hoping for a hat trick of hits ( after Yaradi Nee Mohini and Polladhavan) ,Vijay has to come out of the shell he has got himself into, in order to get back to his winning ways.

Let's look back, Vijay's previous release was the infamous Kuruvi while Dhanush's Yaradi Nee Mohini which released around the same time went on to become a huge blockbuster. Let's rewind a little further when Vijay's Azhagiya Tamil Magan released. That was the period Dhanush's Polladhavan also released. Polladhavan went on to become a blockbuster while Azhagiya Tamil Magan was a damp squib.

Padikkathavan is a film owned by Sun Group and is being promoted nicely by the producers and as a result they were able to create a curiosity in every viewers mind. This curiosity is meant to be a helping factor to the movie, which is carrying only an average review. On the other hand, Vijay's Villu have opened to a record collections but might find it hard to sustain its brilliant opening especially because mixed views have started pouring in about the film.

Both Villu and Padikkathavan are based on the same genre of typical mass entertainers with nothing new in it. Since Vijay is a mighty force to reckon with in Tamil Cinema, his new release Villu might go on for a hundred days but will fail to keep the viewer's happy just like his previous venture Kuruvi. Padikkathavan too is slated for a descent run at the box office. Let's wait and see, out of these two which film is going to win the race in the final lap?
