Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi : Review

The much awaited flick starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has released worldwide today. There have been a much expectation about the film. The main reason behind this sort of expectation was due to the magic that Adithya Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan have provided earlier with their previous two films, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Mohabbatein. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was released with a tag having the meaning that in every ordinary life there is an extra ordinary love story.

Surinder Sahni (Shah Rukh Khan) - a simple, clean hearted, honest man working for Punjab Power, leading a humdrum life, when he meets his total opposite and finds love in the flamboyant, fun-loving, vivacious - Taani (Anushka Sharma) for whom the whole world is her canvas and she paints her own life with the colours of rainbow all until unforeseen circumstances changes it all and brings them together. Sooner, its biggest dance show in Amritsar and Surinder coiffes himself as Raj what he calls 'Macho Chap'… He does it all to impress his girl Taani and what's next?

All the leading artists in this film have worked very well. Shah Rukh have done a nice job in his character presentation especially with the image make over. Debutant girl Anushka too have done a fair good job. Vinay Pathak was simply superb. Though their presence in the film was not really needed, all the leading ladies from Bollywood like Kajol, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukherji, Lara Dutta and Bipasha Basu were simply mind blowing. They all appear in a song sequence.

Hats off to Aditya Chopra..... An awesome motif of delineating a touching story of romance... It's a journey filled with laughter, tears, joy, pain, music, dance and a lot of love. A journey that makes us believe that there is an extraordinary love story in every ordinary jodi.

There are some drawbacks too. The main drawback is that how come a woman fails to recognize her husband with a slight-make over. The characters of Surindar and Raj differ merely with thin moustache, hair style and costumes. Both the characters have same voice sans any modulations, and if so how could she identify her husband as Raj on the grand finale of the dance competition?

Ravi K Chandran's cinematography was superb, but the main highlight of the movie must be it's music that was scored by the duo Salim-Sulaiman. All the songs except 'Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte' were awesome. Even though that song features most of the leading actresses from industry it failed to impress miserably.

All in all, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is no Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. It's not Mohabbatein either. At best, it's an above average fare that may generate some curiosity initially. I prefer you to watch this movie once for sure.
