G Sureshkumar, the office bearer of producer forums as well as K G George, Chairman of Film Development Corporation have openly said it. Now the group of producers who don't want to do anymore Superstar films have united and have decided to do some low budget films with fresh faces. A plan for six films under this category have worked out. Each of it will have budget around 1.5 crores and they are planned for the years 2009-10.
According to the new group in Malayalam film industry, only four out of the 54 films which came up in the year 2008 ended up as profit makers. Among these failed 50 films there are Superstar films too. So they are considering their new move as an answer to ever increasing budget of Malayalam films, mostly featuring superstars which also fail to become box office earners.
First in the span of six films will be scripted by M T and will be directed by Lal Jose. Then it's the turn of Kamal, who will be directing as well as scripting that movie. Third venture will be scripted by A K Sajan for the action director Shaji Kailas. Renjith and Rafi Mecartin are making the fourth and fifth films respectively. The last one in the row will be one from B Unnikrishnan.
Most of the directors who has agreed to do the projects will work on reduced remunerations with an intention to upgrade the Malayalam film industry from it's current status. It will be really a watchable thing whether this industry can move on without these powerful Superstars. Hope it happen.
